The Weasel is pretty excited about his upcoming trip to Paris. He has gotten some new outfits specially for the occasion and is already starting to pack.
The Big Weasel is also getting ready for the trip. Though she still needs to get a new sunhat and some more shoes!
We hear from our friends that the weather there is really great! Lots of sun and dry (in contrast to here where it hasn’t stopped raining for so many days we are beginning to think we might need to build and ark!), with blue skies everywhere…
We can’t wait…

This spring we decided to give the squirrels a break. There were so many new little squirrels and just that one snack box! They needed another place to eat (or else they would be destroying the birdfeeders again)!
And so we made them a squirrel cafe.
Now they come by for a quick nibble every morning (as do a few cardinals and bluejays, too). And there is less fighting over the snack box, which seems to have been taken over by “the bookends”—two little squirrels from Snacker Queens litter.

The beautiful red cardinal stood high in the small tree near Squirrels’ Corner, his song carried along on the breeze. He sang a eulogy for the squirrel who lay dead by the pile of construction debris in the street.
The poor little squirrel suffered the misfortune of returning to his hideout in the neighbor’s attic after the exterminators had come. He will be missed in the garden!
We only hope none of the others try to return there…

The squirrels have been busy all morning… eating, eating, and eating some more!
Spring has brought lots of good things to the garden. Besides the pretty flowers, of course…
The squirrels have been enjoying all the goodies Garden Weasel Junior has been hiding around the gardens. A few piles of seeds around “Squirrel Corner” and more goodies near the shade garden… and even more up on the kitchen deck… (we won’t tell the little guys about the new “storage bin” where all the bags of wildlife food are kept)!
Snacker Queen and her kids are all getting fat and happy… in fact we can barely tell them apart anymore!
And for the time being all the squirrels are behaving themselves and staying out of the birds’ feeders.
The same can’t be said for the birds, as they are often over in Squirrel Corner picking off the sunflower seeds when the squirrels aren’t around. The cardinal has been there quite a lot lately and we are greatful for his songs that accompany Garden Weasels at work.
It’s great to see all our little garden friends frolicking around the new growth. They seem to be so happy that spring is here and the sun is back. Soon the garden will be full of flowers and the trees will start to have yummy berries and other goodies provided by Mother Nature to supplement the stuff they are getting from the Garden Weasels! Can’t wait!!!!!

Busy in the gardens these days cleaning out the debris from last year and preparing the soil for new planting. Luckily all the little crocuses are providing motivation… as we rake away some of the winter debris, out pops another little flower!
The garden animals are all around in search of food… and the birds songs make the day’s work go a little faster!

This morning we saw the first crocus poking up from the garden soil. It was very very tiny, but bright yellow and a happy and welcome harbinger of spring! The garden is full of little green shoots rising up toward the sun! Soon we hope to see everything starting to bloom, as the grey days of winter are behind us and the bright hope of spring is ahead! The Garden Weasel is smiling a big, big smile… time to go buy more plants!!!!

The Garden Weasel was happy to see those seeds starting to sprout already… And so it was just the incentive to go out and get MORE seeds and another mini greenhouse thing! …Which we dutifully planted with strawberries, marigolds, zinnas, and african daisies…
The little tomato seedlings are two inches high already! And eggplants and peppers have sprouted too… And in the herb planter we have the beginnings of basil, chives and parsely!
Looks like we are going to have quite a garden this year… Smile Big Weasel!!!!!

There has been a burst of activity in the garden lately… and i don’t just mean the little green shoots breaking thru the earth everywhere we look! Squirrels, squirrels, squirrels… Squirrels running around! Squirrels jumping on each other! Squirrels jumping on the squirrel snackbox! Squirrels jumping on the bird feeders! Squirrrels playing ring-around-the-rosie on the big maple tree!
The young squirrels are everywhere! And they are eating everything in sight! Luckily the birds get up earlier and go to bed later, or they would never get a bite to eat with the hordes of young squirrels out there…
Oh, and spring is coming… it’s official… the Garden Weasel spotted the first two robins in her garden!

Greetings to all our Weasel friends from the Gentleweasel!

Well, it is official… Spring is on it’s way and the Garden Weasel was planting seeds today!
Despite a forecast that actually included some snow in the area, it’s warm and sunny inside and it’s time to get those seeds going.
Used a little Burpee greenhouse thing-a-ma-bob, and planted 36 cells: 6 early and often tomatoes, 6 cherry tomatoes, 6 cocktail tomatoes, 6 sweet bell peppers, 3 sweet long peppers, and 9 black beauty eggplants.
Also planted some kitchen herbs: basil, chives and parsely.
